Who is this event for
ELSA is an evidence based intervention developed and supported by Educational Psychology services across the country. ELSA is an evidence based intervention developed by Educational Psychologists, designed to build the capacity of schools to support the emotional needs of their pupils from within their own resources. This programme is for support staff/mentors who wish to become trained as registered Emotional Learning Support Assistant (ELSAs).
What does this event cover
The course consist of 11 virtual training sessions and 1 face to face workshop covering:
  • An introduction  to the ELSA project
  • What is Emotional Literacy and its impact on pupils success
  • Promoting a whole school approach
  • Tools to identify pupils Emotional Literacy need (Includes information and support for line mangers)
  • Attachment in the classroom
  • Helping children to feel secure
  • Security and building resilience
  • Building blocks of self-esteem
  • Motivation for learning
  • Introducing active listening and developing communication skills
  • The nature of friendship
  • Skills needed to form and maintain friendships
  • Teaching social skills and the use of social stories
  • Recognising and regulating emotions, e.g.Anger
  • Using stories to help children reflect on feelings and behaviour and think about alternative strategies
  •  Loss, separation and bereavement
  • Factors affecting children’s grief
  • Next steps(Includes information and support for line mangers)
