Who is this event for
This course is for EYFS practitioners working with families in the perinatal period, it will be particularly suitable for practitioners who have a limited knowledge of perinatal mental health.
What does this event cover
Every practitioner working with families during the perinatal period has a role in the promotion of good perinatal mental health enabling families with a mental illness to get appropriate and timely care, to safeguard them against associated risks and the impact of stigma, and to recognise how perinatal mental illness can affect the parent-child relationship. The aim of this 1 day multi-agency awareness training is to develop your:

- Understanding of the concept of perinatal mental health and the impact it can have for the individual, family and community.
- Recognition of perinatal mental illness to support detection at the earliest opportunity.
- Appreciation of your own role and that of other practitioners in the context of national direction for perinatal mental health and local care pathways.

The training will be led by your local Perinatal Champion and will engage you with the importance of good perinatal mental health, it will support your awareness of contemporary policy and research and explore the range of perinatal mental conditions, their clinical features and the impact of perinatal mental illness for parents and child(ren). You will be familiarised with local referral pathways and the range of interventions available and will consider some of the challenges and opportunities for supporting families experiencing (or at risk of) perinatal mental illness.
