Who is this event for
'Back on Track' is Knowledge Exchange programme with schools to respond to the unique short, medium and long term consequences of Covid-19 on the education of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The domains will address the main areas of concern regarding the disparity in learning experiences that a student with SEND will have had due to school closures compared to their peers.

Possible domains or themes:

  • Planning for ‘before the school doors open’.
  • Sustainable and meaningful ways to engage and listen to Pupil Voice and Family Voice
  • Building, rebuilding and maintaining positive school relationships and friendships
  • Environmental adjustments (deep cleaning, social distancing measures etc)
  • Flexibility and creativity in design and planning (eg virtual classrooms for some children as a transition point)
  • Emotions and trauma
  • Closing the attainment gap
  • Support for staff, families and children
What does this event cover
In the hour-long seminar, Dr Amelia Roberts will present an update on the research and ideas relating to the domains above. After this, there will be a short discussion and a short questionnaire, which will form part of the stakeholder feedback used to develop and improve the programme.
