Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning: Becoming a Learner for Life

Starts: Thursday 5 March 2020 - 09:30 - 12:30
Venue : Crowndale Centre - Committee Room 1, 218 Eversholt Street, London, NW1 1BD map
Who is this event for
Early Years Practitioners and Childminders working with children aged 0 - 5.
What does this event cover

Ofsted inspectors will look for evidence that children display the characteristics of effective learning: their ability to play and explore, to actively learn and to create and think critically. Children will develop these with good teaching and a well-planned, stimulating environment. Think about your setting and ask yourself:

– How well engaged are children in their play and learning?

– Do all areas of the environment and curriculum stimulate children to find out and explore?

– How well motivated are they and what do you provide to help children to keep trying?

– How do you build children’s concentration?

– How do you help children to create and think critically?

– What opportunities do children have to express their own ideas rather than following ideas pre-set by adults?

– How do you encourage children to plan their own ways of doing things and to solve problems in their play and learning?

This course will support you to:

  • Think about the 3 aspects of the characteristics of effective learning: playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically and what they look like in practice
  • The role of the adult in supporting children to develop the characteristics of effective learning
  • Develop environments, routines and daily experiences that reflect the characteristics
    of effective learning.
