First Aid at Work

Who is this event for
The QA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (QCF) qualification is specifically designed for individuals who wish to act as a first aider in their workplace. Successful candidates will learn how to manage a range of injuries and illnesses that could occur at work and will be equipped with the essential skills needed to give emergency first aid.
What does this event cover
The role and responsibilities of a first aider; assessing an incident; managing an unresponsive casualty; cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs); recovery position; heart attack; stroke; chocking; epilepsy; asthma, diabetes; anaphylaxis shock; head and spinal injuries; chest injuries; wounds and bleeding; fractures; sprains, strains and dislocations; minor injuries; burns and scalds; poisoning; eye injuries.

What does this event cover
The training will enable teachers to be confident to teach RSE. By the end of the training teachers will:

  • Know what to teach at Year 5 and 6
  • Have a scheme of work with a range of activities and resources for teaching RSE
  • Have developed skills and confidence for teaching RSE
  • Have strategies for dealing with questions and managing discussions 
  • The training will take account of the new DfE guidance on Relationships Education

This course covers the essential information required for the effective management of asbestos remaining in schools and children’s centres.

Areas covered include:

  1. Camden’s asbestos policy and arrangements
  2. Types of asbestos survey and understanding survey data
  3. Use of asbestos management plans
  4. Effective use of the permission to work procedure
  5. Incident management
  6. Asbestos works

By attending the course you will:

  1. be able to identify the important parts of the Asbestos Survey, what it means to the school and how to ensure staff, children and visitor safety.
  2. understand your role and responsibilities in relation to managing asbestos where it remains in situ
  3. be able to implement effective practical management in your workplace including the permission to work procedure, annual inspections and reporting asbestos related incidents
  4. be able to act as an authorising officer for the school and complete the permission to work log
  5. be aware of where to look for further information and advice
